Enoshima Day Trip from Tokyo: Half-Day Island Route, Fares and Which Ticket to Buy (2026)

Updated 2026-10-14

Enoshima is a half-day island. Four hours covers the bridge, the escar, the Sea Candle lighthouse and the caves, which is why I would plan it as the second half of a day, not the whole day. From Shinjuku the Odakyu train to Katase-Enoshima costs ¥650 one way (¥1,300 round trip), and the island itself costs ¥1,550 with the Enoshima 1day ticket, so the full island day comes to ¥2,850 per adult. One thing most pages get wrong: for an Enoshima-only trip the Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass (¥1,640) is the wrong buy. It only pays once you add Kamakura. Fares and hours below come from Odakyu, Enoden, the Shonan Monorail, the Sea Candle and the city tourist association, checked 2026-10-14.

Route map of three ways from Tokyo to Enoshima. Shinjuku to Katase-Enoshima on Odakyu, 650 yen adult, child 330 yen, Romancecar seat plus 750 yen. Tokyo Station on the JR Tokaido Line to Fujisawa, then Enoden to Enoshima 220 yen in 9 minutes, or to Ofuna, then Shonan Monorail to Shonan-Enoshima 340 yen in 14 minutes. Walk to the aquarium: 3 minutes from Katase-Enoshima, 10 from the two other stations. Walk to the garden on the island: 20, 25 and 26 minutes.
Three stations serve the island. Katase-Enoshima, the Odakyu one, is the closest: 3 minutes to the aquarium and 20 to the garden on top.

Three ways to get there

From Trains One-way adult fare Time
Shinjuku Odakyu to Katase-Enoshima (many trains end at Fujisawa; change there to the shuttle for the last stretch) ¥650 (IC ¥649, child ¥330) Odakyu says Enoshima is about an hour from central Tokyo
Shinjuku, reserved seat Romancecar to Katase-Enoshima ¥650 + ¥750 seat (¥700 if bought online) 65 min on the official timetable (Home Way No.81: Shinjuku 17:20, Katase-Enoshima 18:25)
Tokyo Station JR Tokaido Line to Fujisawa, then Enoden to Enoshima JR fare at the gate + Enoden ¥220 (child ¥110) Enoden leg 9 min
Tokyo Station or Yokohama JR to Ofuna, then Shonan Monorail to Shonan-Enoshima JR fare at the gate + monorail ¥340 (child ¥170) Monorail leg 14 min

My pick is Odakyu from Shinjuku. Katase-Enoshima is the only station on the island side of the river, so you step out and the bridge is in front of you. The JR routes make sense if you hold a Japan Rail Pass (it covers the JR leg but not the Enoden or the monorail, the monorail's own FAQ says so) or if you start near Tokyo Station. The monorail hangs under its rail and is a ride in itself; we wrote it up in the Shonan Monorail guide.

Single tickets or the Freepass?

The Odakyu round trip is ¥1,300. The Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass from Shinjuku is ¥1,640 and adds unlimited Enoden rides between Fujisawa and Kamakura. So the pass costs ¥340 more than the plain round trip, and you only get that back by riding the Enoden.

The Freepass also comes in a Fujisawa version (¥810) for people arriving by JR; the Enoden pass guide compares it with the Enoden's own 1-day pass. Add Romancecar seats if you want them: ¥750 per adult each way, ¥380 per child.

The island in order

Enoshima island in order: Benten Bridge, escar 500 yen running 8:50 to 19:05, Samuel Cocking Garden and Sea Candle 800 yen with last entry 19:30, Iwaya Caves 500 yen open 9:00 to 17:00, Chigogafuchi rock shore, then the Benten-maru boat back to the bridge for 500 yen in about 6 minutes. The Enoshima 1day ticket at 1,550 yen covers escar, Sea Candle and caves; bought separately they cost 1,800 yen.
Up by escar, caves before 17:00, lighthouse last. The 1day ticket saves ¥250 against buying the three one by one.
  1. Benten Bridge. Walk across from Katase-Enoshima. The garden at the top of the island is a 20-minute walk from the station by the Sea Candle's own count; the escar cuts the climbing part.
  2. Escar. ¥500 per adult, ¥250 per child, three sections, uphill only. It runs 8:50 to 19:05. The stairs are about 20 minutes if you skip it.
  3. Samuel Cocking Garden and the Sea Candle. The garden is free from 9:00 to 17:00, and all day when no event is on. The lighthouse deck costs ¥800 (child ¥400) and takes visitors until 19:30. If you only want this, the Sea Candle Set Ticket (escar + lighthouse) is ¥1,100.
  4. Iwaya Caves. ¥500 per adult, ¥200 per elementary school child, open 9:00 to 17:00 (hours vary by season). This is the stop that forces the order: the caves shut two and a half hours before the lighthouse does.
  5. Back to the bridge. On foot, or on the Benten-maru boat from Chigogafuchi: ¥500 (child ¥200), about 6 minutes, cash only. It runs roughly 10:30 to 14:30 on weekends and 11:00 to 14:30 on weekdays, with no weekday service from December to February, and the day's sailings are decided around 10:30. Wind, waves or a low tide cancel it, so treat it as a bonus, not a plan.

Which island ticket: the Enoshima 1day (¥1,550, child ¥700) covers escar, Sea Candle and caves. Bought one by one the same three cost ¥1,800. If you skip the caves, the Sea Candle Set at ¥1,100 is the right one. Group prices and the night variants are in the Enoshima island tickets calculator.

Event days change the garden. During Shonan Candle 2026 (10 October to 3 November) the garden charges ¥500 after 17:00 (child ¥250), with the candles lit from 17:00 to 20:00 and later on weekends. The tickets page sells "+Night" versions of each set for those evenings.

Half day or full day

What it costs

Adult Child (6–11)
Odakyu Shinjuku ⇄ Katase-Enoshima, two single tickets ¥1,300 ¥660
Enoshima 1day (escar + Sea Candle + caves) ¥1,550 ¥700
Total ¥2,850 ¥1,360

Two adults and two children aged 6 to 11 pay ¥8,420. Junior high school students pay the adult price on the island. Add-ons: Romancecar seat +¥750 each way, Benten-maru boat +¥500, aquarium +¥2,800, garden after 17:00 on event days +¥500.

The JR routes are missing from this table on purpose. JR East blocked our fare lookup on the day we checked, and I do not print a number I could not see on an official page. Tap an IC card at Tokyo Station and the gate charges the right fare; then add ¥220 for the Enoden or ¥340 for the monorail.

Frequently asked questions

Is Enoshima worth a day trip from Tokyo?

As half a day, yes. The island is small enough to see in about four hours, so pair it with the aquarium or with Kamakura rather than giving it the whole day. The afternoon slot works best, because the lighthouse takes visitors until 19:30 while the caves close at 17:00.

How do you get to Enoshima from Tokyo Station?

Take the JR Tokaido Line to Fujisawa and change to the Enoden (¥220, 9 minutes to Enoshima Station), or to Ofuna and change to the Shonan Monorail (¥340, 14 minutes to Shonan-Enoshima). Both stations are a 10-minute walk from the aquarium. From Shinjuku, Odakyu to Katase-Enoshima (¥650) is simpler and ends 3 minutes from it.

Is the Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass worth it for Enoshima only?

No. The pass is ¥1,640 and two Odakyu single tickets are ¥1,300. The extra ¥340 only pays back if you also ride the Enoden to Kamakura (¥260 each way).

Can you do Enoshima in half a day?

Yes. Bridge, escar, garden, lighthouse and caves fit in about four hours. Arrive by early afternoon so you reach the caves before 17:00.
