Zoorasia vs Ueno Zoo

Zoorasia (Yokohama) Ueno Zoo (Tokyo)
Adult ¥800 ¥600
Junior high school ¥200 (free on Saturdays) ¥200 (free if living or at school in Tokyo)
Elementary school ¥200 (free on Saturdays) Free

Closed Tuesdays Mondays
Getting there train + 15–18 min bus next to Ueno Station

Which one? Ueno is cheaper, easier to reach and fits into half a day in Tokyo. Zoorasia is a bigger, newer zoo laid out like a walk around the world, and on a Saturday a family with school-age kids pays only for the adults. It works well as a family day out if you are staying in Yokohama.

Is the Enoshima Aquarium set ticket worth it?

The zoo sells a set ticket with the Enoshima Aquarium (Enosui) through e-tickets and Lawson Ticket. Here is the math against the normal gate prices of both places:

Set ticket Zoorasia + Enosui at the gate You save
Adult ¥3,380 ¥800 + ¥2,800 = ¥3,600 ¥220
High school ¥1,980 ¥300 + ¥1,800 = ¥2,100 ¥120
Elementary / junior high ¥1,420 ¥200 + ¥1,300 = ¥1,500 ¥80
Age 3 to preschool ¥860 ¥0 + ¥900 = ¥900 ¥40

Yes. Every Saturday, elementary, junior high and high school students enter free with a student ID. Children under school age are free every day.

What day is Zoorasia closed?

Tuesdays. When a Tuesday is a national holiday the zoo opens and closes on Wednesday. It is also closed from 29 December to 1 January.

How do I get to Zoorasia from Yokohama Station?

The quickest way is the Sotetsu Line to Tsurugamine or Mitsukyo, then a bus of about 15 minutes to the Yokohama Dobutsuen stop. There is also a direct Sotetsu bus (Asahi 10) from Yokohama Station West Exit, but it takes about an hour and runs only a few times a day.

Do I need to buy Zoorasia tickets in advance?

No. You can buy at the gate with a credit card or a Suica/PASMO card. Advance tickets at convenience stores and e-tickets on KKday cost the same and only save time at the window.

Is Zoorasia better than Ueno Zoo?

Ueno is cheaper (¥600 for adults, elementary children free) and next to Ueno Station. Zoorasia is larger, laid out by world regions and free for school-age kids on Saturdays, but you need a train and a bus to get there.
