A sample day

This is a plan, not a timetable. Adjust it to when you leave.

We like Osanbashi Pier best: from the rooftop deck you can sit and take in the harbour and the city at your own pace (more in the Yokohama day trip cost calculator).

Add-ons:

Variation: Sankeien Garden in the morning

Sankeien is a large Japanese garden with historic buildings, south of the city centre. It opens 9:00–17:00 (last entry 16:30) and costs ¥900 per adult (high school and over) and ¥200 for elementary and junior high students. It is closed from 26 to 31 December. You reach it by city bus from Yokohama Station East Exit, Sakuragicho or Motomachi-Chukagai; the city bus flat fare is ¥220 per adult and ¥110 per child, cash or IC card. Because it lets people in only until 16:30, go in the morning, then take the bus to Motomachi-Chukagai and do the route backwards (Yamashita Park, Osanbashi, Red Brick), ending with the Marine Tower at night.

Sankeien is not on the Minatomirai Line, so the 1-day ticket does not cover the bus. Count only your train rides when you decide on the ticket.

Frequently asked questions

Is one day enough for Yokohama?

Yes for the harbour area. Minatomirai, the Red Brick Warehouse, Osanbashi Pier, Yamashita Park and Chinatown sit along one stretch of waterfront served by the Minatomirai Line. Start with the Cup Noodles Museum (last entry 17:00) and finish with the Marine Tower at night (last entry 21:30).

What is the best order for a Yokohama day trip?

Minatomirai and the Cup Noodles Museum in the morning, the Red Brick Warehouse and Osanbashi Pier in the afternoon, then Yamashita Park, Chinatown and the Marine Tower in the evening. If you want Sankeien Garden too, go there first, because its last entry is 16:30.

How much does a Yokohama day trip cost?

About ¥2,780 per adult on a weekday from Shibuya: Tokyu trains ¥620, the Minatomirai Line 1-day ticket ¥460, the Cup Noodles Museum ¥500 and the Marine Tower night ticket ¥1,200. On weekends the tower costs ¥200 more. Food is extra. Without paid sights, the trains alone cost ¥1,080.

Is the Cup Noodles Museum open every day?

No. It is closed on Tuesdays (on the next day when Tuesday is a national holiday) and over the New Year holidays. It opens 10:00–18:00 with last entry at 17:00. Adults pay ¥500; high school students and younger are free.

Is Osanbashi Pier free?

Yes. The rooftop of Osanbashi Pier is a park open to everyone 24 hours a day, free of charge. It is a 7-minute walk from Nihon-odori Station.

How late is the Yokohama Marine Tower open?

The observation deck runs a night ticket from 18:00 to 22:00 (from 19:00 in June to August), with last entry at 21:30. It costs ¥1,200 per adult on weekdays and ¥1,400 on weekends and holidays, ¥100 less online.
