Hakone Pirate Ship: Ticket Prices, Route and Timetable (Lake Ashi Cruise, 2026)
Short answer: the Hakone pirate ship (official name: Hakone Sightseeing Cruise) crosses Lake Ashi between Togendai-ko in the north and Hakone-machi-ko or Moto-Hakone-ko in the south in about 25–40 minutes. An adult ticket is ¥1,700 one way or ¥3,000 round trip (children 6–11: ¥850 / ¥1,300). First class costs ¥800 extra each way. If you already have a Hakone Freepass, the normal cabin is free. Prices from Hakone Navi, the official site of the Odakyu Hakone group, checked 2026-10-10.
Ticket prices (from 1 October 2025)
Adult = junior high school age and up. Child = elementary school age (6–11).
| Route | Adult | Child | First class (extra, adult / child) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Togendai-ko ⇄ Hakone-machi-ko | ¥1,700 | ¥850 | +¥800 / +¥400 |
| Togendai-ko ⇄ Moto-Hakone-ko | ¥1,700 | ¥850 | +¥800 / +¥400 |
| Hakone-machi-ko ⇄ Moto-Hakone-ko | ¥600 | ¥300 | +¥240 / +¥120 |
| Round trip | ¥3,000 | ¥1,300 | not listed on the price page |
- Valid on the day you buy it only. A one-way ticket does not let you get off at the middle port and board again later.
- Where to buy: the ticket counters at all three ports, or online as a digital QR ticket (Odakyu's EMot ticket site). The QR code must be shown live on your phone; a screenshot does not work at the gates.
- Payment at the ports: credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, UnionPay and others) and Suica or PASMO are accepted.
- Bicycles need a special luggage ticket: ¥850 on the long legs, ¥300 on the short leg, and space is limited.
- The old prices (¥1,200 one way, ¥2,220 round trip) ended on 30 September 2025. Older blogs still show them.
Which ticket is cheapest for you?
| Your plan | Cheapest ticket | Adult | Child |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full Hakone loop from Tokyo (train, cable car, ropeway, boat, bus) | Hakone Freepass | ¥7,100 from Shinjuku (2 days) | ¥1,600 |
| Only the boat, one way | Single ticket | ¥1,700 | ¥850 |
| Boat there and back (e.g. you parked at one port) | Round-trip ticket | ¥3,000 | ¥1,300 |
| Ropeway one way + boat one way, no pass | Single tickets (¥2,000 + ¥1,700) | ¥3,700 | ¥1,550 |
| Ropeway and boat both ways, no pass | Pirate ship + ropeway 1-day pass | ¥5,000 | ¥1,400 |
Two things the numbers show:
- For adults, the 1-day pass only wins when you ride both ways. Ropeway round trip (¥3,000) + boat round trip (¥3,000) = ¥6,000, so the ¥5,000 pass saves ¥1,000. One way on each costs only ¥3,700.
- For children, the 1-day pass wins even one way. Ropeway ¥700 + boat ¥850 = ¥1,550, but the child pass is ¥1,400.
The pirate ship + ropeway pass covers the Hakone Ropeway (Sounzan to Togendai) and all three ports for one day. It is sold at every ropeway station and port, and gives ¥100 off a one-way first-class ticket (¥50 for children). It does not cover the Tozan Train, the cable car or the buses, so it suits people who drive to Lake Ashi. Coming by train from Tokyo, check the Hakone Freepass calculator first: the Freepass usually beats single tickets once you ride the whole loop (the math is in Is the Hakone Freepass worth it?).
The route: 3 ports
- Togendai-ko (north): next to Togendai Station of the Hakone Ropeway, a 3-minute walk. Start here if you come down from Owakudani.
- Hakone-machi-ko (south-west): most boats from Togendai stop here first.
- Moto-Hakone-ko (south-east): buses back to Hakone-Yumoto and Odawara leave from here.
A one-way ride from Togendai takes about 25–40 minutes. A round trip takes about 70–90 minutes. In the classic loop you ride the boat once, from Togendai to Moto-Hakone; see our Hakone day trip itinerary for the full day in order.
Timetable from Togendai-ko (20 March – 30 November)
Boats leave Togendai-ko at: 9:30, 10:10, 10:45, 11:25, 12:00, 12:40, 13:15, 13:55, 14:30, 15:10, 15:50, 16:25 and 17:00.
- Most boats call at Hakone-machi-ko first, then Moto-Hakone-ko.
- 16:25 goes to Moto-Hakone-ko first, then Hakone-machi-ko. It is the last boat to Moto-Hakone-ko.
- 17:00 goes to Hakone-machi-ko only. An extra 17:35 boat to Hakone-machi-ko runs only from 26 July to 25 August.
- From Moto-Hakone-ko back to Togendai: 9:40, 10:15, 10:55, 11:30, 12:10, 12:45, 13:25, 14:00, 14:40, 15:15, 15:55 and 16:30.
Winter (1 December – 19 March) has a different timetable, and some sailings take longer. Check the official timetable before a winter trip. Boats can also change their time or port, or stop, in heavy fog or strong wind. See the official status page on the morning of your trip.
First class (special cabin)
Each ship has a first-class cabin. You pay the normal fare plus ¥800 (Togendai legs) or ¥240 (short leg). It is the only extra the Hakone Freepass does not cover: Freepass holders pay the first-class charge each time they use it. First-class tickets are limited in number and seats are not assigned. The operator says the cabin is the way to avoid the crowds on board.
The three ships
Three pirate ships sail the lake: Queen Ashinoko, Royal II and Victory, each with a different design. All three are barrier-free. Royal II came back into service after a renovation in July 2026. You cannot choose the ship when you buy a normal ticket.
