Shonan Monorail: Fares, 1-Day Ticket, Timetable, and How It Fits an Enoshima & Kamakura Day (2026)
The Shonan Monorail is the quickest way from the JR network to Enoshima: 14 minutes from Ofuna to Shonan-Enoshima for ¥340 (child ¥170), with a train every 7 to 8 minutes for most of the day. It is a suspended monorail, so the cars hang below the rail and the ride itself is part of the trip. The 1-day ticket costs ¥750, and a plain round trip is ¥680, so the ticket only makes sense if you ride three times or want its shop discounts. For most visitors the right move is simpler: tap Suica or PASMO, ride to the sea, then come home through Kamakura on the Enoden and the JR Yokosuka Line, so you never ride the same track twice. Fares are from the operator's fare table (revised in March 2026), checked 2026-10-13.
The monorail in one minute
| Route | Ofuna (JR) → Fujimicho → Shonan-Machiya → Shonan-Fukasawa → Nishi-Kamakura → Kataseyama → Mejiroyamashita → Shonan-Enoshima, 8 stations |
| Time | About 14 minutes end to end |
| Fare, end to end | ¥340 adult, ¥170 child (6–11); the same by cash or IC card |
| Trains | Every 7–8 minutes from 7:00 to about 23:00 on weekdays |
| First and last from Ofuna | 5:35 and 23:50 |
| First and last from Shonan-Enoshima | 5:25 and 23:26 |
| 1-day ticket | ¥750 adult, ¥380 child |
| Japan Rail Pass | Not valid. The monorail is a private company |
The whole line is on one track with trains going both ways, and there is no express: every train stops at every station.
Every fare from Ofuna
| From Ofuna to | Adult | Child (6–11) |
|---|---|---|
| Fujimicho | ¥220 | ¥110 |
| Shonan-Machiya | ¥220 | ¥110 |
| Shonan-Fukasawa | ¥240 | ¥120 |
| Nishi-Kamakura | ¥290 | ¥150 |
| Kataseyama | ¥320 | ¥160 |
| Mejiroyamashita | ¥340 | ¥170 |
| Shonan-Enoshima | ¥340 | ¥170 |
The minimum fare for any ride is ¥220 (child ¥110). Between the five stations from Nishi-Kamakura to Shonan-Enoshima every ride is that minimum. The operator raised fares on 14 March 2026; its English route map still shows the old ¥310, so trust the table, not the map.
Is the 1-day ticket worth it?
The 1-day ticket costs ¥750 (child ¥380) and gives unlimited rides for one day.
| What you ride | Single fares, adult | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Ofuna → Shonan-Enoshima and back | ¥340 + ¥340 = ¥680 | single tickets, save ¥70 |
| Ofuna → Shonan-Enoshima → Nishi-Kamakura → Ofuna | ¥340 + ¥220 + ¥290 = ¥850 | 1-day ticket, save ¥100 |
| Ofuna → Shonan-Enoshima, then Enoden and JR back | ¥340 (monorail only) | single ticket, obviously |
So: a round trip is cheaper on single fares, and the ticket wins from the third ride. Two things can still tip a two-ride day towards the ticket. First, the operator lists partner offers for 1-day ticket holders, for example 10% off a one-day spa at Enoshima Island Spa. Second, if you buy the "Monorail de Enosui" set (1-day ticket + Enoshima Aquarium entry) at the Ofuna station window, it costs ¥3,270 for an adult against ¥750 + ¥2,800 = ¥3,550 bought separately, a saving of ¥280. See the Enoshima Aquarium tickets calculator for the other set tickets and the ¥200 pass discount.
Where to buy the 1-day ticket: any Shonan Monorail station, or as a web ticket on the operator's ticket site, the RYDE PASS app or Pass Case, which you show as a QR code or tap as a card at the dedicated gate.
Timetable: how often, and the last train
The departure timetable the operator publishes for Ofuna has been the same since June 2016, and the first and last trains on it match the operator's current FAQ.
| From Ofuna | Weekdays | Weekends and holidays |
|---|---|---|
| First train | 5:35 | 5:35 |
| 7:00–20:52 | every 7–8 minutes | every 7–8 minutes |
| 21:00–22:52 | every 7–8 minutes | every 15 minutes |
| 23:00–23:50 | 23:00, 23:15, 23:30, 23:50 | 23:00, 23:15, 23:30, 23:50 |
From Shonan-Enoshima the first train is 5:25 and the last 23:26. In practice you never need the timetable in the daytime: walk to the platform and a train comes within a few minutes. The only time to check is a weekend evening after 21:00, when the gap doubles.
How to pay
- IC cards (Suica, PASMO and the other nationwide transit cards): tap in and out at the gate, same fare as a paper ticket.
- Paper tickets from the machines at each station. The operator's FAQ says to use cash at the machines.
- Contactless credit, debit or prepaid cards, and phones with Apple Pay or Google Pay: tap at the dedicated gate, no top-up needed.
- QR digital tickets bought on the official ticket site or the RYDE PASS app.
- The Japan Rail Pass does not cover it, nor do the Enoden 1-day pass (Noriorikun) or the Odakyu Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass. The only pass that covers the monorail is its own 1-day ticket.
Four of the eight stations (Fujimicho, Shonan-Fukasawa, Kataseyama, Mejiroyamashita) have no station staff; hand paper tickets to the conductor on the platform there. Toilets are only at Ofuna, Shonan-Machiya and Shonan-Enoshima. Free Wi-Fi is at Ofuna and Shonan-Enoshima.
Using it from Tokyo: the Ofuna–Enoshima–Kamakura triangle
Ofuna is a big JR junction: the Tokaido Line, the Yokosuka Line, the Shonan-Shinjuku Line and the Negishi Line all stop there, so you can reach it directly from Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shinjuku, Shibuya and Yokohama. The monorail starts in the same station complex.
Our suggested shape for the day, per adult:
- Tokyo area → Ofuna by JR (fare depends on where you start; see the Kamakura and Enoshima day trip cost guide).
- Ofuna → Shonan-Enoshima by monorail, ¥340, 14 minutes. From the station the Enoshima Aquarium is a 10-minute walk and the Sea Candle on top of the island about 26 minutes (both are the operators' own figures). The Enoden's Enoshima station and the Odakyu's Katase-Enoshima station are a short walk away too: three stations, three companies, all for the same island.
- Enoshima → Hase by Enoden, ¥260, about 19 minutes, for the Great Buddha and Hasedera.
- Hase → Kamakura by Enoden, ¥200, 4 minutes.
- Kamakura → Ofuna → home by the JR Yokosuka Line, with Kita-Kamakura in between if you want the Zen temples.
Monorail plus Enoden comes to ¥600, and you see a different line in each direction. The operator itself quotes the alternatives from Ofuna at 20 minutes via Kamakura (JR + Enoden) and 25 minutes via Fujisawa (JR + Odakyu) against 14 minutes on the monorail, so going out by monorail and back by Enoden is the faster order as well as the cheaper one.
If you would rather do the loop the other way, or want to see whether a pass beats single fares for your stops, use the Enoshima & Kamakura calculator and the Enoden 1-day pass guide. Neither pass includes the monorail, so add ¥340 to whatever they show.

Good to know
- Fujimicho, Shonan-Fukasawa, Kataseyama and Mejiroyamashita are residential stops with no staff and no toilets. Nothing a visitor needs is at them, so ride straight through.
- The walk from Shonan-Enoshima to the Sea Candle includes the Enoshima Escar, a paid outdoor escalator in three sections; its gates take credit cards, transit IC cards and PayPay. See the Enoshima island tickets calculator for the Escar and Sea Candle prices.
- The operator's own FAQ says the Japan Rail Pass is limited to JR lines, so JR Pass holders pay the ¥340 like everyone else.
- If you arrive after 21:00 on a weekend, expect a 15-minute wait at Ofuna rather than the daytime 7–8 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
How much is the Shonan Monorail from Ofuna to Enoshima?
¥340 for an adult and ¥170 for a child aged 6 to 11, by cash or IC card (official fare table, revised 14 March 2026). The ride takes about 14 minutes.
How often does the Shonan Monorail run?
Every 7 to 8 minutes from 7:00 until about 23:00 on weekdays. On weekends and holidays the gap becomes 15 minutes after 21:00. The first train from Ofuna is 5:35 and the last is 23:50.
Is the Shonan Monorail 1-day ticket worth it?
Only if you ride three times or more, or use the partner discounts. The ticket is ¥750 (child ¥380), and a round trip Ofuna ⇄ Shonan-Enoshima in single fares is ¥680. The "Monorail de Enosui" set with aquarium entry (¥3,270 adult) saves ¥280 against buying both separately.
Can I use Suica or PASMO on the Shonan Monorail?
Yes. Nationwide transit IC cards work at the gates, and the fare is the same as a paper ticket. You can also tap a contactless credit card or a phone at the dedicated gate.
Does the Japan Rail Pass or the Enoden pass cover the Shonan Monorail?
No. The Japan Rail Pass is valid only on JR lines, and neither the Enoden 1-day pass nor the Odakyu Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass includes the monorail. Its own 1-day ticket is the only pass that does.
How far is Enoshima island from Shonan-Enoshima station?
The Enoshima Aquarium says 10 minutes on foot from the station, and the Sea Candle at the top of the island says 26 minutes, which includes crossing the bridge and climbing through the shrine. The Enoden Enoshima station is nearby, so you can leave by the Enoden without walking back up.
