Hakone Freepass: is it worth it? (calculator)

The Freepass from Shinjuku includes one Odakyu round trip to Odawara on regular trains. The Romancecar limited express is not included in any Hakone Freepass: it costs ¥1,200 per adult (¥600 child) extra each way, Shinjuku ⇄ Hakone-Yumoto, about 80 minutes.

From our own visit

For us, Hakone means the black eggs (kuro-tamago) at Owakudani, boiled in the hot volcanic water until the shells turn black. They are not just a curiosity: they taste really good. The Ropeway stops at Owakudani, so it is an easy break on the loop.

No. With any Hakone Freepass you pay the Romancecar fee on top: ¥1,200 per adult and ¥600 per child (6–11) each way between Shinjuku and Hakone-Yumoto.
