Tokyo to Enoshima by Train: Which Line from Your Station, Fares, and the Three Enoshima Stations (2026)

Updated 2026-10-28

Enoshima has three railway stations, and the one you arrive at is decided by where in Tokyo you start. From Shinjuku, the Odakyu line runs to Katase-Enoshima, the station with the bridge to the island right outside, for ¥650 one way. From Tokyo Station, Shinagawa, Ueno or Shibuya, JR trains take about an hour to Fujisawa or Ofuna, and you finish on the little Enoden (¥220) or the Shonan Monorail (¥340). No route needs more than one change. Fares and times below are from Odakyu, the Enoden, the Shonan Monorail, the Fujisawa City Tourist Association and the aquarium, checked 2026-10-28. JR East's fare pages blocked us again, so the JR fares say "at the gate".

Route map from six Tokyo-area stations to Enoshima. Shinjuku on the Odakyu Enoshima Line to Fujisawa and Katase-Enoshima, ¥650 adult, child IC fare ¥50, Romancecar seat plus ¥750. Shinjuku and Shibuya on the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line, and Ueno, Tokyo Station, Shinagawa and Yokohama on the JR Ueno-Tokyo and Tokaido Lines, to Ofuna and Fujisawa in about one hour, JR fare paid at the gate. Fujisawa to Enoshima on the Enoden ¥220, child ¥110. Ofuna to Shonan-Enoshima on the Shonan Monorail ¥340, child ¥170, 14 minutes. Walk to the aquarium: 3 minutes from Katase-Enoshima, 10 from the other two stations. Walk to the garden on the island: 20, 25 and 26 minutes.
Solid dark blue is JR from the Tokyo Station side, dashed is the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line from Shinjuku and Shibuya, light blue is Odakyu. All three meet at Fujisawa or Ofuna.

Which line from your station?

You are near Take Change? About how long
Shinjuku Odakyu Enoshima Line to Katase-Enoshima (Romancecar, or a regular train) Regular trains: often at Fujisawa, two stops before the end Odakyu: "just an hour from central Tokyo"; Romancecar 61 to 69 min on the timetable
Shinjuku, Shibuya (the line also calls at Ikebukuro) JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line to Fujisawa, then Enoden; or to Ofuna, then monorail Once, at Fujisawa or Ofuna About 1 hour to Fujisawa (Fujisawa City Tourist Association) plus the last leg
Tokyo Station, Shinagawa, Ueno JR Ueno-Tokyo Line / Tokaido Line to Fujisawa or Ofuna Once, at Fujisawa or Ofuna About 1 hour to Fujisawa plus the last leg
Yokohama JR to Fujisawa (30 to 40 min) or Ofuna Once Covered in the Yokohama to Enoshima guide
Asakusa, Ginza, Roppongi Subway to Ueno, Tokyo Station or Shinjuku first Twice Add the subway ride to the times above

The tourist association's access page lists the three railways that reach Fujisawa, Odakyu's Enoshima Line, the JR Ueno-Tokyo Line and the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line, and says direct trains from Tokyo, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Shinagawa and Ueno take around an hour. That is the fact that simplifies the whole question: whichever big station you are near, there is a train to Fujisawa without a change.

My rule is simple. Near Shinjuku, take Odakyu, because it is the only line that goes past Fujisawa to the island itself. Anywhere else, take JR to Fujisawa and finish on the Enoden, which drops you ten minutes from the aquarium and costs ¥220. The monorail from Ofuna is the choice when you are already on a train that stops at Ofuna but not Fujisawa, or when you want the ride for its own sake: it hangs under its rail and swings through the hills, and we wrote it up in the Shonan Monorail guide.

The three Enoshima stations

They are a few minutes' walk apart on the mainland side, by the mouth of the Katase River. None of them is on the island. From each you walk over Benten Bridge, which takes about ten minutes.

Station Railway Walk to the aquarium Walk to the garden on top Who ends up here
Katase-Enoshima Odakyu 3 min 20 min Anyone from Shinjuku, and JR riders who change at Fujisawa to the Odakyu shuttle
Enoshima Enoden 10 min 25 min JR riders who change at Fujisawa, and anyone coming from Kamakura
Shonan-Enoshima Shonan Monorail 10 min 26 min JR riders who change at Ofuna

The walking minutes come from the aquarium's and the Sea Candle's own access pages. Katase-Enoshima wins on every count, and its building, a copy of the Dragon Palace from the folk tale, is the easiest landmark in town. If you arrive by Enoden, the Odakyu station is on the far side of the river bridge from the Enoden one, a sign of how close they all are.

What the trains cost

Put together for a round trip from central Tokyo, per adult:

Round trip Adult Child 6 to 11
Odakyu from Shinjuku, regular trains ¥1,300 (IC ¥1,298) ¥660 with tickets, ¥100 with a child IC card
Odakyu from Shinjuku, Romancecar both ways ¥2,800 (¥2,700 with online seats) ¥1,420 with tickets
Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass from Shinjuku ¥1,640 ¥430
JR to Fujisawa and back, Enoden both ways JR fares + ¥440 JR fares + ¥220
JR to Ofuna and back, monorail both ways JR fares + ¥680 JR fares + ¥340

Is the Freepass worth it for Enoshima?

Not on its own. The Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass costs ¥1,640 from Shinjuku and contains an Odakyu round trip worth ¥1,300, so you are paying ¥340 for the unlimited Enoden and Odakyu rides between Fujisawa, Katase-Enoshima and Kamakura. On an island-only day you take none of them. Add Kamakura and the sum flips: one Enoden ride from Enoshima to Kamakura is ¥260 and the ride back to Fujisawa is ¥310, ¥570 of Enoden for ¥340 of pass. The Enoshima and Kamakura calculator does this sum for your group and your number of Enoden rides.

For children the pass is almost never right. A child's Odakyu round trip is ¥100 on a child IC card, and the child Freepass is ¥430. A child would need ¥330 of Enoden rides to break even, which is three or more rides.

The Romancecar: fine on weekends, a gap on weekdays

The Romancecar is Odakyu's reserved-seat express, and from Shinjuku it runs through to Katase-Enoshima without a change. The catch is in the timetable. On weekdays the only morning train, Enoshima No.1 at 07:10, ends at Fujisawa, and the next trains that reach the island leave Shinjuku at 16:20, 17:20 and 18:20. For a weekday morning start there is no direct Romancecar to Enoshima; you ride a regular train and change at Fujisawa if yours ends there. On weekends and holidays the picture is different: ten trains from 07:20, roughly every one to two hours.

Departure board for Romancecar trains from Shinjuku to Katase-Enoshima. Weekdays: Enoshima No.1 at 07:10 ends at Fujisawa 08:03 and does not reach the island; Enoshima No.3 16:20 arrives 17:27; Home Way No.81 17:20 arrives 18:25; Home Way No.83 18:20 arrives 19:28. Weekends and holidays: 07:20 arriving 08:21, 08:20 arriving 09:28, 10:20 arriving 11:29, 12:20 arriving 13:28, 14:20 arriving 15:26, 15:20 arriving 16:23, 17:20 arriving 18:25, 18:20 arriving 19:26, 19:20 arriving 20:27, 20:20 arriving 21:20. Last Romancecar back from Katase-Enoshima: weekdays 19:39, weekends 20:03. Seat fee ¥750, ¥700 online, child ¥380. Odakyu timetable dated 2026-03-14.
Three weekday departures, all in the late afternoon, against ten at the weekend. The weekend 07:20 arrives at 08:21, half an hour before the escar on the island opens.

The ride takes 61 to 69 minutes depending on the train (the weekend 07:20 arrives at 08:21; the 10:20 arrives at 11:29). Seats are ¥750 each way per adult, ¥700 if you buy online, and the Freepass does not include them. Coming back, the last Romancecar from Katase-Enoshima is at 19:39 on weekdays and 20:03 on weekends; regular trains run later. If the Romancecar matters to you more than the island does, the Hakone Romancecar guide covers the longer, more frequent run to Hakone-Yumoto.

How long does it take?

Call it an hour and a quarter from any central station to the foot of the island, an hour and a half to the garden on top. That is why the Enoshima day trip guide plans the island as a half day.

Is there a Shinkansen to Enoshima?

No. The nearest Shinkansen stations are Shin-Yokohama and Odawara, and neither helps: from Shin-Yokohama you would still ride ordinary trains to Fujisawa, and Odawara is the Hakone side. Searches for a "bullet train to Enoshima" lead nowhere because the Odakyu and JR commuter lines are already the fast way.

Japan Rail Pass holders

The pass covers the JR legs: Tokyo Station, Shinagawa, Ueno, Shibuya or Shinjuku to Fujisawa or Ofuna. It does not cover Odakyu, the Enoden or the Shonan Monorail, which are separate companies. Ride JR to Fujisawa, then pay ¥220 on the Enoden by IC card. The Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass is not for you: its main value is the Odakyu round trip you are not taking. If you go on to Kamakura by Enoden the same day, the Enoden's own ¥800 Noriorikun pass is the one to compare, in the Enoden pass guide.

What I would do

Booking the day

PR Affiliate links (disclosure): booking through them supports this site at no extra cost. Prices on partner sites may differ from the official prices on this page.

On the island, the Enoshima tickets calculator adds up the escar, the Sea Candle and the caves for your group, and the aquarium calculator checks the set tickets with the train.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a Suica or PASMO card all the way from Tokyo to Enoshima?

Yes, on every route. JR, Odakyu, the Enoden (its access page lists Suica, PASMO and ICOCA) and the Shonan Monorail all take the national transport IC cards. On the JR routes you tap out of JR at Fujisawa or Ofuna and tap into the Enoden or the monorail.

Which station is closest to the island?

Katase-Enoshima, the Odakyu station: 3 minutes to the aquarium and about 20 to the garden on top of the island. The Enoden's Enoshima station and the monorail's Shonan-Enoshima are both about 10 minutes from the aquarium.

Does the Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass cover JR trains?

No. It covers Odakyu between Shinjuku and the Fujisawa area and the Enoden. If you arrive by JR, buy the Fujisawa version (¥810) only if you will ride the Enoden and the Odakyu shuttle enough to use it; for Enoshima alone, single tickets.

Do I need to reserve the Romancecar in advance?

Every Romancecar seat is reserved, so you need a seat ticket before boarding; Odakyu sells them online (¥50 cheaper than at the station), at machines and at counters. On a weekend morning the 07:20 and 08:20 trains are the useful ones, and there are only ten departures a day, so buying the day before is sensible.

Is it cheaper to go via Kamakura?

Only if Kamakura is part of the day. Tokyo Station to Kamakura by JR and then the Enoden to Enoshima (¥260) costs more in time than going straight to Fujisawa. The Tokyo to Kamakura guide has that route.
