What is the cheapest way from Tokyo to Odawara?
The Odakyu Line from Shinjuku on a regular train: ¥910 per adult each way (¥901 with a Suica or PASMO card), ¥460 for a child. From Tokyo Station, the JR Tokaido Line costs ¥1,600 (¥1,595 with an IC card).
Is the Romancecar worth it to Odawara?
It costs ¥1,000 on top of the ¥910 fare (¥950 if you book ticketless online), and every seat is reserved. You pay for a guaranteed seat and fewer stops, not a cheaper trip. If you continue to Hakone, the Romancecar runs through to Hakone-Yumoto.
How much is Odawara Castle?
The main keep (Tenshukaku) costs ¥1,000 for adults (high school and older) and ¥300 for elementary and junior high school students, from 1 March 2026. The ticket also gets you into the SAMURAI-kan in the Tokiwagi-mon gate. NINJA-kan is separate: ¥500 / ¥200. Children under school age are free. Walking in the castle park is free.
What are Odawara Castle's opening hours?
9:00 to 17:00. Last entry to the main keep is 16:30, to the SAMURAI-kan 16:45 and to NINJA-kan 16:30. Closed 31 December and 1 January; the main keep also closes on the second Wednesday of December.
Can I combine Odawara with Hakone in one day?
Yes, Odawara is where the Hakone Tozan Line starts. If you plan to ride the Hakone loop, check whether the Hakone Freepass is worth it: the Shinjuku version already includes your Odakyu round trip to Odawara.

- JR East raised its fares on 14 March 2026. The JR Tokaido Line fare Tokyo–Odawara went from ¥1,520 to ¥1,600. Since then, a Shinkansen ticket and a Tokaido Line ticket between Tokyo and Atami are separate: you cannot switch from one to the other on the same ticket.
- The Hakone Freepass covers Odakyu trains to Odawara but not the castle or the Shinkansen.
- The Shinkansen price above is for a non-reserved seat in regular season. A reserved seat costs more.
