Enoshima Sea Candle Tickets: ¥800 Entry, the ¥1,100 Escar Set, Night Prices for Shonan Candle 2026 and Hours (2026)
The lighthouse on top of Enoshima costs ¥800 for adults and ¥400 for elementary school children. The garden it stands in, Samuel Cocking Garden, is free from 9:00 to 17:00, and free all day when no event is on. The price that surprises people is the evening one. During an event, anyone inside the garden after 17:00 pays ¥500 (child ¥250), and Shonan Candle 2026 is on every evening until 3 November. Two tickets take the sting out of that: the Sea Candle Set (¥1,100), which adds the three-section escar escalator up the hill, and the Sea Candle & Garden + Night ticket (¥1,100), the cheapest way to stand on the deck after dark. Prices below are the operator's own, checked 2026-10-17.

| Enopass Area Passport + Night | ¥4,370 | ¥2,020 | as above plus the garden after 17:00 | escar section 1 |
Adult means junior high school age and up; child means elementary school. The Enopass has two more steps: high school ¥2,940 (¥3,370 with Night) and junior high ¥2,640 (¥3,070 with Night). These prices have applied since October 2025. The tourist offices are the Katase-Enoshima Tourist Information Office and the Fujisawa Tourist Information Center. Everything else is sold at the foot of the first escar, where cash, credit cards, transit IC cards and PayPay all work.
One rule drives the whole table: +Night tickets exist only on event days, because only then does the garden charge after 17:00. On a quiet Tuesday in March the ¥1,100 Sea Candle Set already covers the evening.
Which ticket, by time of day
- Daytime, taking the escar: the Sea Candle Set, ¥1,100. Escar (¥500) and lighthouse (¥800) bought separately come to ¥1,300.
- Daytime, walking up: just the ¥800 lighthouse ticket at the garden gate. The garden is free, and the stairs take about 20 minutes from the bridge.
- Event evening, taking the escar: the Sea Candle Set + Night, ¥1,550, bought at the first escar. Paying the set and then ¥500 at the garden gate would be ¥1,600. The saving is small, but it also means one queue instead of two.
- Event evening, walking up: the Sea Candle & Garden + Night, ¥1,100. The pay-as-you-go total is ¥1,300, so this ticket is the best value in the table. It is sold at the garden entrance and nowhere else, and since the escar stops at 19:05 while the garden stays open to 20:00 or later, late arrivals are walking up anyway.
- Caves as well: the Enoshima 1day, ¥1,550 (¥1,800 one by one). The 1day + Night (¥1,950) only pays off if you see the caves in the afternoon and stay for the lights; the caves close at 17:00.
The operator's FAQ states the trigger plainly: during an event period, entering or leaving the garden after 17:00 incurs the night fee. Arriving at 16:30 on a Shonan Candle day with a plain Set and leaving at 17:15 costs the extra ¥500. Either go in by day and leave before 17:00, or buy the +Night version and stay until the last entry.
| Example | Who | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Escar + lighthouse by day | 1 adult | ¥1,100 |
| Lighthouse by day, stairs | 1 adult | ¥800 |
| Candle evening, stairs | 1 adult | ¥1,100 (one by one ¥1,300) |
| Escar + lighthouse by day | 2 adults + 2 elementary school children | ¥3,300 |
| Candle evening with the escar | 2 adults + 2 elementary school children | ¥4,600 (2 × ¥1,550 + 2 × ¥750; one by one ¥4,800) |
The lighthouse and the garden
The Sea Candle's glass-walled observation room is 101.5 m above sea level, with an open-air deck above it. The operator lists Mt. Fuji, the Izu Peninsula and the Hakone and Tanzawa mountains as the view on a clear day; in practice that means a winter morning, when the air over Sagami Bay is driest. Below it, Samuel Cocking Garden keeps the brick ruins of a Meiji-era greenhouse, once among the largest in the East, with an exhibition room that closes at 17:00. The Sunset Terrace on the west side has been shut for a full rebuild since a notice in June 2026, with no reopening date posted.
The detail I did not expect: the tower's night lighting is for hire. For ¥30,000 (plus tax) you book one of 12 colours for a 30-minute slot between 17:00 and 20:00; from sunset to 22:00 costs ¥100,000. Bookings open three months ahead and close one week before, paid by card in advance, and two admission tickets for the escar, garden and tower come with it. Proposals are the stated use.
The escar
- Three sections, 46 m of climb, about 4 minutes. It starts at the red torii of Enoshima Shrine and ends beside the garden entrance. The operator calls it Japan's first outdoor escalator, and section 1 now runs a projection show on the way up.
- Uphill only. Everyone walks down the stairs.
- Hours 8:50–19:05, earlier than the garden and the tower.
- Pay at section 1. Cards, IC cards and PayPay are accepted at all three sections, but the set tickets and the +Night tickets are sold at the first one, so decide there.
- Strollers cannot ride. Staff keep them at section 1. Pets go up only if fully inside a bag, cage or cart, and stay off the ground inside the facilities.
Hours, and the four event seasons
- Samuel Cocking Garden: 9:00–20:00, last admission 19:30 (30 minutes before closing). Hours are extended during events.
- Sea Candle: 9:00–20:00. Escar: 8:50–19:05.
- No regular closing day is listed. Shops inside keep their own hours; the souvenir shop runs 10:00–19:30 and the cafés take last orders at 19:00.
The garden charges after 17:00 in four event periods a year, in the operator's own words: the Enoshima Art Festival from early April to early June, Enoshima Lanterns from early August to mid September, Shonan Candle from early October to early November, and the winter lights Shonan Jewels from early December to late February. Exact dates for each are posted on the operator's news page as they come.
Shonan Candle 2026 runs from 10 October to 3 November, with about 10,000 candles in the garden and more than 200 inside the Iwaya Caves (those burn 9:00–17:00). Lighting is 17:00–20:00 on weekdays (last entry 19:30) and until 21:00 on weekends and holidays (last entry 20:30). If weather cancels an evening, the notice goes up by noon that day. For the winter lights, the 2026–27 dates had not been posted on the news page as of 17 October; the season list above puts the start in early December.
Getting there from the three stations
The garden entrance is on foot from all three Enoshima stations: 20 minutes from Katase-Enoshima (Odakyu), 25 minutes from Enoshima (Enoden) and 26 minutes from Shonan-Enoshima (Shonan Monorail). Cross Enoshima Benten Bridge, walk straight up Benzaiten Nakamise street to the shrine's red torii, ride the escar, and the entrance is on the right. The walking minutes include the escar; on the stairs add a few more.
From Tokyo the Odakyu train from Shinjuku is the direct way in, and the fares and the best ticket for the day are in Enoshima day trip from Tokyo. Coming from Kamakura, the Enoden is one train for ¥260: see Kamakura to Enoshima. The island car parks are about 10 minutes' walk away and fill up on holidays, which is why the operator asks weekend visitors to come by train. For the caves and the aquarium as well, run your own combination through the Enoshima island tickets calculator.
Passes, groups and discounts
- The Enoden 1-day pass (Noriorikun, ¥800) and the Odakyu Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass (¥1,640 from Shinjuku) both list the Sea Candle among their partner discounts. Show the pass at the first escar before you pay; one use per person on the pass date. Whether the pass itself pays off is worked out in Enoden 1-Day Pass: is it worth it?.
- Groups of 20 or more get the garden at night for ¥450 (child ¥230), the lighthouse for ¥680 (¥340) and the escar for ¥420 (¥210), booked in advance with the Enoshima Amusement Office.
- Disability certificates halve the escar and the lighthouse and make the garden free, for the holder and one companion; a reduced Sea Candle Set (¥650, child ¥330) is sold at the first escar.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the Enoshima Sea Candle?
¥800 for adults (junior high school age and up) and ¥400 for elementary school children, for the glass observation room and the open deck above it. With the three-section escar it is the Sea Candle Set, ¥1,100 and ¥550 (operator's prices, checked 2026-10-17).
Is Samuel Cocking Garden free?
Yes from 9:00 to 17:00 every day, and all day when no event is on. During the four event seasons, anyone who enters or leaves after 17:00 pays ¥500 (child ¥250) or holds a +Night ticket.
Do I need a special ticket for Shonan Candle 2026?
No reservation, but after 17:00 you pay the garden's night fee, so buy a +Night ticket: Sea Candle Set + Night ¥1,550 at the first escar, or Sea Candle & Garden + Night ¥1,100 at the garden entrance if you walk up. The event runs 10 October to 3 November, until 20:00 on weekdays and 21:00 on weekends and holidays.
Can I ride the escar down?
No. All three sections run uphill only and the way down is the stairs. The escar stops at 19:05, earlier than the garden, so evening visitors should expect to walk at least one way.
