Minato Burari Ticket: Price, Where to Buy, Area Map and When It Pays Off (2026)

Updated 2026-11-02

Yokohama's day pass for buses and the subway is the Minato Burari Ticket: ¥700 per adult, ¥350 per child (6–11) for unlimited rides on Yokohama City buses, the red Akai Kutsu loop bus, the BAYSIDE BLUE bus and the Blue Line subway between Yokohama and Yoshinocho, on one day. The Wide version (¥750 / ¥380) adds Shin-Yokohama Station, which is the one to buy if you arrive by shinkansen. Every bus ride costs ¥220 and a subway hop in the centre ¥210, so the pass needs 4 rides before it beats paying as you go. The catch most visitors miss: it does not cover the Minatomirai Line, the train that goes straight to Minatomirai and Chinatown. I read the Transportation Bureau's Japanese and English pass pages, the subway fare table and the bus timetables, checked 2026-11-02.

Schematic map of the Minato Burari Ticket area. Blue Line subway Yokohama, Takashimacho, Sakuragicho, Kannai, Isezaki-chojamachi, Bandobashi, Yoshinocho, 210 yen for any hop up to Kannai; Shin-Yokohama only with the Wide ticket. Akai Kutsu loop bus from Sakuragicho bay 3 via Bashamichi, World Porters, Hammerhead, Red Brick, Nihon-odori, Chinatown, Motomachi, Harbour View Park, Marine Tower, Yamashita Park and Osanbashi, 220 yen a ride, every 15 to 20 minutes. BAYSIDE BLUE from Yokohama Station East Exit bay A4 via Minatomirai to Hammerhead. City bus 8 or 168 to Sankeien and a bus to Takigashira, stops in between not covered. Not covered: Minatomirai Line, JR trains, Sea Bass boats, Air Cabin.
The pass is a bus-and-subway pass. The dotted blue leg to Shin-Yokohama is Wide only. The Minatomirai Line is not in it.

Children under 6 ride free on the buses, up to 2 per adult. Under 6 is free on the subway too. Buses count a child as age 1 to under 12 and the subway as 6 to 11, which only matters for a 5-year-old travelling alone.

Every fare you would pay without it

Ride Adult Child
Any Yokohama City bus, the Akai Kutsu loop or BAYSIDE BLUE, one ride ¥220 ¥110
Blue Line, Yokohama ⇄ Sakuragicho or Kannai (and Sakuragicho ⇄ Kannai) ¥210 ¥110
Blue Line, Yokohama ⇄ Isezaki-chojamachi, Bandobashi or Yoshinocho ¥250 ¥130
Blue Line, Shin-Yokohama ⇄ Yokohama ¥250 ¥130
Blue Line, Shin-Yokohama ⇄ Sakuragicho or Kannai ¥280 ¥140

With an IC card the ¥250 and ¥280 subway fares are ¥242 and ¥272; the bus fare is ¥220 either way. The subway fare depends on distance, with any part of a kilometre counted as a full one: Yokohama to Isezaki-chojamachi is 3.5 km, so it falls in the 4–7 km band at ¥250.

That gives the rule. Three rides in the centre cost ¥630 to ¥660, less than the pass. Four rides cost ¥840 or more, and the pass wins from there. The only 3-ride day that beats ¥700 is three subway trips at ¥250 each, which no sightseeing day looks like.

Four Yokohama days: pass or single fares?

Four day plans for one adult and one child aged 6 to 11, single fares against the pass. Akai Kutsu only, 3 rides: 660 yen adult and 330 child, single fares win by 40 and 20 yen. Subway plus loop bus, 4 rides: 860 and 440 yen, the pass saves 160 and 90 yen. Sankeien day, 5 rides: 1,090 and 550 yen, the pass saves 390 and 200 yen before the 100 yen gate discount. Shinkansen arrival with the Wide ticket, 4 rides: 1,000 and 500 yen, Wide saves 250 and 120 yen.
The usual first-timer day, three loop-bus rides, is the one where tapping an IC card is cheaper.
Day plan (adult) Rides Single fares Pass
Sakuragicho → Red Brick → Chinatown → Sakuragicho, all on the Akai Kutsu 3 ¥220 × 3 = ¥660 ¥700, singles save ¥40
Subway Yokohama → Sakuragicho, 2 Akai Kutsu rides, subway Kannai → Yokohama 4 ¥210 + ¥440 + ¥210 = ¥860 pass saves ¥160
Bus 8 Yokohama Station → Sankeien, bus 8 Sankeien → Chinatown, 2 Akai Kutsu rides, subway Sakuragicho → Yokohama 5 ¥220 × 4 + ¥210 = ¥1,090 pass saves ¥390, plus ¥100 off at the garden gate
Shin-Yokohama → Kannai by subway, 2 Akai Kutsu rides, Sakuragicho → Shin-Yokohama 4 ¥280 + ¥440 + ¥280 = ¥1,000 Wide (¥750) saves ¥250

For a child the same days cost ¥330, ¥440, ¥550 and ¥500 against ¥350 (¥380 Wide), so the verdicts are the same.

What I take from the table:

Minato Burari or the Minatomirai Line 1-day ticket?

Pass Adult / child What it covers Buy it when
Minato Burari Ticket ¥700 / ¥350 City buses, Akai Kutsu, BAYSIDE BLUE, Blue Line Yokohama – Yoshinocho, Sankeien and Takigashira stops 4+ bus or subway rides, a Sankeien visit, the hill up to Harbour View Park
Minato Burari Ticket Wide ¥750 / ¥380 The above plus Shin-Yokohama Station You arrive or leave by shinkansen
Minatomirai Line 1-day ticket ¥460 / ¥230 The six Minatomirai Line stations, Yokohama to Motomachi-Chukagai 3+ train rides between Minatomirai, Bashamichi, Nihon-odori and Chinatown
City bus 1-day ticket ¥600 / ¥300 Every Yokohama City bus, whole city, no subway Buses only, outside the Burari area (Zoorasia, Hakkeijima buses)
Subway 1-day ticket ¥740 / ¥370 Blue Line and Green Line, whole network, no buses Long subway days, for example Shin-Yokohama, Totsuka and Kannai in one day
Bus and subway 1-day ticket ¥830 / ¥420 Both networks, whole city Buses and subway beyond the Burari area

The Minatomirai Line and the Blue Line are two different railways that happen to share Yokohama Station, and no pass covers both. If your day is the waterfront only, the ¥460 ticket is the cheaper and faster buy; the comparison with single Tokyu and JR fares from Tokyo is in the Yokohama day trip cost calculator. The Burari ticket is for the day that leaves the waterfront: Sankeien, the Yamate hill, the Tram Museum, or simply a bus seat between every stop.

The Akai Kutsu loop: stops and times

The red retro bus is the part of the pass you will use most. It leaves JR Sakuragicho Station bus terminal, bay 3, and runs one loop of about 68 minutes:

Sakuragicho → Bashamichi → Bankokubashi / World Porters → Hammerhead → Red Brick Warehouse / Marine & Walk → Nihon-odori / Prefectural Office → Chinatown → Motomachi → Harbour View Park → Motomachi → Marine Tower → Yamashita Park → Osanbashi passenger terminal → Red Brick Warehouse → Hammerhead → World Porters → Bashamichi → Sakuragicho.

Weekdays Weekends and holidays
Interval about every 20 minutes about every 15 minutes
First loop from Sakuragicho 10:02 10:02
Last loop from Sakuragicho 18:02 (back at 19:10) 18:32 (back at 19:50)
Sakuragicho → Chinatown 23 minutes 27 minutes
Sakuragicho → Harbour View Park 33 minutes 38 minutes

Before 10:00 and after the last loop, a short Akai Kutsu run shuttles between Sakuragicho and Hammerhead only (8:33 to 22:23 on weekdays). You get on at the front door and pay there: ¥220 in cash or by IC card, or show the date side of your pass to the driver. Harbour View Park is the stop that earns the pass; it is up a hill that the Minatomirai Line does not climb, and the bus drops you at the gate.

BAYSIDE BLUE is the long articulated bus from Yokohama Station East Exit, bay A4, every 30 to 40 minutes through Minatomirai and the Red Brick area to the Yamashita side. Same ¥220 fare, same pass.

Where to buy it

  1. Blue Line subway stations (paper): Yokohama, Takashimacho, Sakuragicho, Kannai, Isezaki-chojamachi, Bandobashi and Yoshinocho. The Wide ticket is also sold at Shin-Yokohama. Say the date you want; staff stamp it on the ticket.
  2. Yokohama Station: the subway Customer Service Center and the pass office at the East Exit (Sogo, basement 1).
  3. Sakuragicho Station Tourist Information Center (standard ticket only), plus about 40 hotels and shops in the area.
  4. On your phone: the my route app, Klook (search "Minato Burari") or the @Yokohama website, same prices. You show the ticket screen to the bus driver, and to the staff at the subway gate rather than tapping through.

You cannot buy it on board a bus. If you arrive at Yokohama by Tokyu or JR, the nearest sales point is the Blue Line ticket office below the station.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Minato Burari Ticket cover the Minatomirai Line?

No. It covers the Blue Line subway (Yokohama to Yoshinocho) and buses. The Minatomirai Line has its own ¥460 1-day ticket.

Can I use it from Shin-Yokohama?

Only the Wide version (¥750) lets you get on or off at Shin-Yokohama Station. The standard ¥700 ticket does not, and you cannot use either at the four stations between Shin-Yokohama and Yokohama.

Where do I catch the Akai Kutsu bus?

At bay 3 of the JR Sakuragicho Station bus terminal, from 10:02 every 15 to 20 minutes, last loop at 18:02 on weekdays and 18:32 on weekends. Any stop on the loop works too; pay or show the pass when you get on.

Is the digital ticket cheaper?

No, it is the same ¥700 (¥750 Wide) on the my route app, Klook and the @Yokohama site. The advantage is buying it before you reach a subway station. Show the screen to the driver or the gate staff.
