Yokohama Sea Bass Ferry: Price, Route, Timetable and Which Boats Skip Red Brick (2026)

Updated 2026-10-12

¥1,500 for an adult from Yokohama Station to Yamashita Park, ¥750 for a child. The train between the same two places costs ¥230. So nobody takes the Sea Bass (シーバス), Yokohama's harbour water bus, to save money or time. You take it because it turns a walk-and-subway day into a 20 to 35 minute boat ride past Minato Mirai, and lands you a few minutes from Chinatown.

The catch we didn't expect when we went through the official timetable: most boats skip one of the four piers. On a weekday, only 4 of the 10 boats leaving Yokohama Station call at Pier Red Brick. Get on the wrong one and you ride straight past the Red Brick Warehouse.

Sea Bass route: Yokohama Station East Exit to Hammerhead about 15 minutes, Hammerhead to Pier Red Brick about 10 minutes, Pier Red Brick to Yamashita Park about 10 minutes; the direct boat from Yokohama Station to Yamashita Park takes about 20 minutes. Adult fares: Yokohama Station to Hammerhead 1,300 yen, to Pier Red Brick 1,300 yen, to Yamashita Park 1,500 yen; Hammerhead to Pier Red Brick 1,000 yen, to Yamashita Park 1,300 yen; Pier Red Brick to Yamashita Park 1,300 yen. Child fares are half. The Minatomirai Line train from Yokohama to Motomachi-Chukagai is 230 yen.
Read the fare chart like a Japanese station fare board: find the square where your two piers meet.

Fares between the four piers

Between Adult Child
Yokohama Station East Exit ⇄ Hammerhead ¥1,300 ¥650
Yokohama Station East Exit ⇄ Pier Red Brick ¥1,300 ¥650
Yokohama Station East Exit ⇄ Yamashita Park ¥1,500 ¥750
Hammerhead ⇄ Pier Red Brick ¥1,000 ¥500
Hammerhead ⇄ Yamashita Park ¥1,300 ¥650
Pier Red Brick ⇄ Yamashita Park ¥1,300 ¥650

What a family of two adults and two children (3 to 12) pays from Yokohama Station to Yamashita Park: 2 × ¥1,500 + 2 × ¥750 = ¥4,500. The same four people on the Minatomirai Line pay 2 × ¥230 + 2 × ¥120 = ¥700 (child train fare is half, rounded up to ¥10).

Is the Sea Bass a good idea?

Our view: yes, once, one way. Ride it from Yokohama Station to Yamashita Park (or the reverse), then walk or take the train for everything else. Riding pier to pier all day adds up fast: Hammerhead and Pier Red Brick are both a short walk from Bashamichi Station (10 and 7 minutes from exit 6), so ¥1,000 for that 10-minute hop is hard to justify.

Skip it if you're on a tight budget, or if you're arriving at Yokohama Station late in the afternoon. The last boats leave around 18:00, earlier than most people expect for a city ferry.

It runs in the rain (the deck isn't covered). There's nothing for sale on board, but you can bring your own drink or a snack you can eat with one hand.

Timetable: the boats that stop where you want

Times below are from the official timetable on 2026-10-12. The operator says times and stops can change without notice, and fewer boats run while a ship is in dock for inspection. Check the board at the pier.

Tickets and paying

You can't book a regular Sea Bass boat unless you're a group of 15 or more. Everyone else buys a ticket on the day from the ticket machine at the pier. The machines and counters take Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover and UnionPay, plus iD and transport IC cards such as Suica and PASMO. QR payments (PayPay and the like) are not accepted.

The operator also runs pre-booked harbour cruises (night view, factory night view, illumination). Those are separate from the water bus, with their own prices and routes.

Finding the piers

Coming from Tokyo, compare train passes for the day (you pay the Sea Bass fare on top) in our Yokohama day trip cost calculator. To fit the boat into a full day, see the Yokohama day trip itinerary. The Yokohama Air Cabin ropeway is the other way to cross the harbour, from Sakuragicho.
