Pola Museum of Art Hakone Tickets: ¥2,200, the ¥1,600 Senior Price Online, Freepass Discount, Free Shuttle from Gora (2026)

Updated 2026-10-30

A ticket to the Pola Museum of Art in Sengokuhara is ¥2,200 for an adult, ¥1,700 for university and high school students, and free for junior high school students and younger. The same prices apply at the door and on e-tix, the museum's official online ticket site. Two things change the price. Show a Hakone Freepass at the door and an adult pays ¥2,000, a student ¥1,500. Buy on e-tix at 65 or older and the ticket is ¥1,600, a price that neither the door list on Hakone Navi nor older guides mention. The museum's own website was offline on the day I wrote this (a security notice says the museum is open as usual, 9:00–17:00), so every number here comes from e-tix and from Hakone Navi, Odakyu's Hakone site, checked 2026-10-30.

Ticket table for the Pola Museum of Art in three columns: at the door, on e-tix online, and at the door with a Hakone Freepass. Adult 2,200 yen, 2,200 yen, 2,000 yen. Age 65 and over 2,200 yen, 1,600 yen, 2,000 yen. University and high school students 1,700 yen, 1,700 yen, 1,500 yen. Junior high school students and younger free in every column. Disability certificate holders and one companion 1,100 yen each at the door, not sold online. An e-tix ticket is valid for one entry on any open day until 7 April 2027. Closed Tuesday 1 December 2026 and 8 to 26 April 2027.
The cheapest column depends on who you are: Freepass holders pay at the door, visitors over 65 buy on e-tix first.

What is on until April 2027

One ticket covers everything in the building. The exhibition on now is "The New Vision: Monet and 21st-century art" (the museum's title in Japanese is あたらしい目 ― モネと21世紀のアート), held for the 100th anniversary of Monet's death and the museum's 25th year. It runs from 17 June 2026 to 7 April 2027 and uses galleries 1, 2 and 4, the atrium gallery, the lobby and the forest trail. The e-tix page says the collection exhibition running at the same time is included. The artist list on Tokyo Art Beat pairs Monet, Gallé and Seurat with contemporary names such as Roni Horn, Pierre Huyghe, Lucas Arruda and Felix Gonzalez-Torres.

The museum opened in 2002 and is built mostly below ground among the beech trees of Sengokuhara. The forest trail (森の遊歩道) is listed as one of the exhibition venues, so a dry day gives you more of the ticket than a wet one.

Hours and closing days

Open 9:00–17:00
Last admission 16:30
Regular closing days during the exhibition none, except Tuesday 1 December 2026
Exhibition change 8–26 April 2027, closed (listed on the museum's information page on 12 October)
Weather the museum closes without notice in bad weather, typically heavy snow in Sengokuhara

Sengokuhara sits higher than Hakone-Yumoto and gets snow when the valley does not. In January and February, check the museum's X account or call 0460-84-2111 before you set off.

How to get there

The museum is at 1285 Kozukayama, Sengokuhara. From Tokyo the route is Odakyu to Hakone-Yumoto, the Hakone Tozan Train to Gora, then a bus.

Vertical route map from Shinjuku to the Pola Museum of Art. Odakyu Line Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto 1,270 yen, or add the 1,200 yen Romancecar seat. Hakone Tozan Train Hakone-Yumoto to Gora about 40 minutes, 460 yen adult, 230 yen child, free with the Hakone Freepass. From Gora Station, the free museum shuttle from car park 4 by the station underpass, or the Hakone Tozan Bus S line, Freepass valid. The S bus continues to Sengokuhara; Gora to the Hakone Glass Forest stop is about 15 minutes. Hakone Freepass from Shinjuku, 2 days, 7,100 yen, covers every train and bus leg.
Both buses stop at the museum gate, but they leave Gora Station from different places: the shuttle from car park 4, the S bus from the bus stops.
Leg Time Adult fare Child
Shinjuku → Hakone-Yumoto, Odakyu regular trains – ¥1,270 –
Romancecar seat fee (optional, no change at Odawara) – +¥1,200 –
Hakone-Yumoto → Gora, Hakone Tozan Train about 40 min ¥460 ¥230
Gora Station → museum, free museum shuttle – ¥0 ¥0
Gora Station → Pola Museum stop, Hakone Tozan Bus S line – IC card fare, free with a Freepass

Combine it with Sengokuhara

The S bus carries on past the museum to the Hakone Venetian Glass Museum (¥1,800, ¥100 off with a Freepass; tickets guide) and the Lalique museum (¥1,500). In autumn the Sengokuhara pampas grass field is on the same side of the mountain; the pampas grass guide has the colour calendar and the bus stop. For a second art stop on the way back, the Hakone Open-Air Museum is one Tozan Train stop below Gora at Chokoku-no-Mori (tickets guide). Two museums plus the train fill a day; three is a rush, because the Pola alone takes most people an hour and a half with the trail.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a Pola Museum of Art ticket?

¥2,200 for adults and ¥1,700 for university and high school students, at the door and on the museum's e-tix site. Junior high school students and younger are free. Disability certificate holders and one companion pay ¥1,100 each at the door. On e-tix there is a ¥1,600 ticket for visitors aged 65 and over.

Does the Hakone Freepass give a discount at the Pola Museum?

Yes. Hakone Navi lists ¥200 off for adults and for high school and university students when you show the pass at the door, so an adult pays ¥2,000. The pass also covers the Tozan Train to Gora and the S bus to the museum.

Is the Pola Museum open every day?

During the current exhibition it has no weekly closing day. It is closed on Tuesday 1 December 2026, from 8 to 26 April 2027 for the exhibition change, and on days of bad weather. Hours are 9:00–17:00 with last admission at 16:30.

How do I get from Gora Station to the Pola Museum?

Take the museum's free shuttle from car park 4 beside the station underpass, or the Hakone Tozan Bus S line from the station's bus stops. The Freepass covers the S bus. Both stop in front of the museum.

Should I buy Pola Museum tickets in advance?

Only if you are 65 or older (the ¥1,600 ticket is online only) or you want to skip the counter. An e-tix ticket costs the same as the door for everyone else, is valid on any open day until 7 April 2027 and cannot be refunded. Freepass holders get a better price at the door.
