Odawara Castle Tickets 2026: ¥1,000 Keep (SAMURAI-kan Included), ¥500 NINJA-kan, Hours, Last Entry and the 10-Minute Walk from the Station
One ticket does most of Odawara Castle. The main keep costs ¥1,000 for adults (high school and up) and ¥300 for elementary and junior high students, and since 1 March 2026 the same ticket also lets you into the SAMURAI-kan, the armor and sword hall inside Tokiwagi-mon gate. The only extra ticket worth deciding on is the NINJA-kan, ¥500 / ¥200. Children under school age pay nothing anywhere. The castle park around the buildings is free to walk, about 10 minutes on foot from Odawara Station, and the keep is open 9:00–17:00 with last entry at 16:30. Prices and hours are from the castle's official pages (Odawara City and the Odawara City Tourism Association), checked 2026-10-20.
Ticket prices from 1 March 2026
| Ticket | Adult (high school and up) | Child (elementary and junior high) | Under school age |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main keep (Tenshukaku), includes the SAMURAI-kan | ¥1,000 | ¥300 | free |
| SAMURAI-kan only (Tokiwagi-mon gate) | ¥300 | ¥100 | free |
| NINJA-kan (Odawara Castle Historical Museum) | ¥500 | ¥200 | free |
| Armor dressing (Tokiwagi-mon, 1st floor) | ¥500 per person | ¥500 per person | — |
- These are the prices set by Odawara City's fee revision of 1 March 2026. The same revision is what made the keep ticket cover the SAMURAI-kan.
- Groups of 30 or more pay 20% less at each building: keep ¥800 / ¥240, SAMURAI-kan ¥240 / ¥80, NINJA-kan ¥400 / ¥160. Book through the tourism association.
- Odawara residents pay about half with proof of address (keep ¥500 / ¥200). This is a new rate from the 2026 revision and does not apply to visitors.
- Holders of a Japanese disability certificate (Mirairo ID accepted) enter all three buildings free, with one companion. Show it at the window of each building.
- There is no combined keep + NINJA-kan ticket. You buy them at two different windows.
Which tickets should you buy?
- Most visitors: the keep ticket only, ¥1,000. You get the five floors of exhibitions and the top-floor view, and the SAMURAI-kan on your way back down through Tokiwagi-mon. Do not buy a SAMURAI-kan ticket separately if you are going up the keep: it is already inside your ¥1,000.
- With children of elementary or junior high age: add the NINJA-kan. It is the building made for them, with hands-on displays about the Fuma ninja who served the Hojo clan. ¥200 per child, ¥500 per adult. A family of two adults and two children does the keep and the NINJA-kan for ¥4,000.
- Short on time, or afraid of stairs: the SAMURAI-kan alone, ¥300. The armor and sword display sits on the second floor of the gate, and the projection show "Hanakiru Yoroi" runs inside it. It is the cheapest ticket in the castle.
- Want the photo in armor: ¥500, and come before 15:30. That is the last rental time, an hour before the keep's last entry. Buy at the ticket machine on the first floor of Tokiwagi-mon and hand the ticket to the staff. Armor, an uchikake kimono, a ninja costume and a jinbaori surcoat are the choices. No reservation, but the sets are limited and you may wait at busy times.
What a family pays
| 2 adults + 2 children (elementary or junior high) | Total |
|---|---|
| Keep only (SAMURAI-kan included) | ¥2,600 |
| Keep + NINJA-kan | ¥4,000 |
| Keep + NINJA-kan + armor dressing for all four | ¥6,000 |
| NINJA-kan only, no keep | ¥1,400 |
Children under school age are free in every building, so a family with toddlers pays only the adult prices.
Hours, last entry and closing days
| Building | Hours | Last entry | Closed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main keep | 9:00–17:00 | 16:30 | 31 Dec–1 Jan, and the second Wednesday of December |
| SAMURAI-kan | 9:00–17:00 | 16:45 | 31 Dec–1 Jan |
| NINJA-kan | 9:00–17:00 | 16:30 (earlier when crowded) | 31 Dec–1 Jan |
| Armor dressing | 9:00–16:00 | 15:30 (last rental) | 31 Dec–1 Jan |
Three things follow from this table:
- Arrive by 16:00 if you want the keep. Last entry is 16:30, and the view is on the top floor, several flights of stairs up.
- The second Wednesday of December closes the keep but not the SAMURAI-kan or NINJA-kan. In 2026 that is 9 December.
- The keep is lit from sunset to 21:00 every night, so the walk through the park after closing time still shows you the building. On a few dates each month it is lit in a colour for an awareness campaign, from 19:30 to 20:30: in October and November 2026 that includes pink on 1 October, green on 16–18 October, blue on 13–15 November and a seven-colour night on 19–21 November (castle notice of 1 October 2026).
What is in each building
- Main keep (Tenshukaku). The current keep was rebuilt in 1960 in reinforced concrete, paid for partly by a citizens' "one roof tile" campaign, and stands 38.7 m tall. Inside: the Edo-period castle on the first floor, the Sengoku-period castle of the Hojo clan on the second, art and excavation finds on the third, the castle from Meiji to today on the fourth, and a recreation of the keep's Marishiten shrine room at the top. The top floor is about 60 m above sea level and looks over Sagami Bay; the castle says you can see the Boso Peninsula on a clear day. A museum shop is inside.
- SAMURAI-kan (Tokiwagi-mon). Opened in 2016 on the second floor of the gate: armor and swords from the castle's own collection and from the Japan Armor and Arms Research and Preservation Society, plus the projection-mapping show "Hanakiru Yoroi" set to music.
- NINJA-kan (Odawara Castle Historical Museum). Reopened on 20 April 2019 with the Fuma ninja as its theme: the story of a Fuma mission to save the castle from the Toyotomi army, told through video and displays you can touch and move. The castle describes it as made for children and overseas visitors. Online tickets for it are suspended at the moment; buy at its window.
- The gates. The three gates on the path from the station are all reconstructions: Umadashi-mon (2009), Akagane-mon (1997) and Tokiwagi-mon (1971). Walking through them costs nothing, and most of the Honmaru and Ninomaru area is a national historic site.

Getting there from Tokyo
Odawara Station is served by four kinds of train, and all of them leave you about 10 minutes on foot from the castle park (the castle's own access page gives this time).
| From Tokyo, one way per adult | Fare | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Odakyu Line from Shinjuku | ¥910 | the cheap way; IC card ¥901 |
| Odakyu Romancecar from Shinjuku | ¥1,910 | ¥910 fare + ¥1,000 seat fee (¥950 online) |
| JR Tokaido Line from Tokyo | ¥1,600 | after the March 2026 fare rise |
| Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo | ¥3,280 | non-reserved; only Hikari and Kodama stop |
The Odawara day trip cost calculator adds the castle tickets for your group to whichever train you pick. If Hakone is the real goal, the Tokyo to Hakone by train guide compares the same four trains with Hakone-Yumoto as the end point.
With the Hakone Freepass: the Freepass from Shinjuku covers your Odakyu trains to Odawara and the Hakone Tozan Line beyond it, but not the castle. Odawara is the first stop of the Tozan Line, so the castle fits as a 90-minute stop on the way to or from Hakone: 10 minutes each way on foot, the keep, and the SAMURAI-kan on the way out. Check the pass against single tickets in the Hakone Freepass calculator.
Best time to go
The castle publishes a flower calendar for the park, and the dates are the ones to plan around:
- Someiyoshino cherry blossom: late March to mid-April. Expect the busiest days of the year at the keep's ticket window.
- Kawazu cherry: early February to early March, and plum: late January to late February, for a quieter early-spring visit.
- Wisteria: mid to late April. Azalea: mid-April to late May. Iris and hydrangea: late May to late June. Lotus: mid-July to mid-August.
In any season, go up the keep before 16:30 and walk the park after. The keep stays lit until 21:00.
Good to know
- Tickets are sold at each building's window. Keep tickets are also sold at the Odawara Tourism Exchange Center (Kanko Koryu Center). Discounts are handled only at the windows.
- Online tickets for the keep are sold through the castle's asoview page (link in the sources). NINJA-kan online sales are stopped for now.
- No car park in the castle park. The access page sends drivers to the paid car parks around the station.
- Children's amusement park in the Ninomaru area, with ¥80 train and car rides and ¥30 play equipment, is closed at the moment (ticket page, October 2026).
- Goshuin (castle stamps) in limited versions go on sale at the Odawara Tourism Exchange Center from time to time (castle news, September and October 2026).
Frequently asked questions
How much is Odawara Castle?
The main keep is ¥1,000 for adults (high school and up) and ¥300 for elementary and junior high students, from 1 March 2026. That ticket also admits you to the SAMURAI-kan in Tokiwagi-mon. The NINJA-kan is a separate ¥500 / ¥200. Children under school age are free. Walking in the castle park is free.
What are Odawara Castle's opening hours?
The keep, the SAMURAI-kan and the NINJA-kan open 9:00 to 17:00. Last entry is 16:30 for the keep and the NINJA-kan, and 16:45 for the SAMURAI-kan. Armor dressing runs 9:00 to 16:00, last rental 15:30. Closed 31 December and 1 January; the keep also closes on the second Wednesday of December.
Is the SAMURAI-kan included in the keep ticket?
Yes, since 1 March 2026. The ¥1,000 keep ticket covers the SAMURAI-kan. The ¥300 SAMURAI-kan ticket is only for people who do not go up the keep.
Is the NINJA-kan worth ¥500?
With children of school age, yes: it is the hands-on building, and a child pays ¥200. Adults travelling without children usually have enough with the keep and the SAMURAI-kan.
Does the Hakone Freepass include Odawara Castle?
No. The Freepass covers the Odakyu trains to Odawara and the Hakone Tozan Line, buses, ropeway and boat in Hakone, but no castle ticket. Budget ¥1,000 per adult on top.
How far is Odawara Castle from Odawara Station?
About 10 minutes on foot, by the castle's own access page. The path from the station enters the park through Umadashi-mon, then Akagane-mon, then Tokiwagi-mon.
Can I buy Odawara Castle tickets online?
Keep tickets, yes, through the castle's asoview page. NINJA-kan online tickets are suspended, so buy those at the window. There is no need to book: the windows sell tickets on the day.
